ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ángel Cañas makes his powerful sculptures from recycled rubber. He is an autodidact artist who, after several years focused in painting and drawing, decides to explore new techniques and materials, finding in the ecological sculpture the perfect ally to express his art and his commitment to environmental issues.
The artist rescues old car, motorcycle, etc. tires from specialized dumps and workshops and gives them a second life. After cutting and treating the material, he puts the selected pieces on a frame of steel and wood, giving life a sculptural work of great realism. Sometimes to bring durability to the work uses polyurethane foams to fill the holes that are formed in the process, in this way the sculpture is not only consistent, but also prepared to be outdoors.
The purpose of his work is to raise awareness of the urgent need to recycle and convey an ecological message. The artist chooses the animal universe as a theme, an aspect that also serves him to advocate for the rights of animals.
